Ruby Powell-Dennis

Tennessee Local Leader

Ruby Powell-Dennis, MBA, MA, CFRE (she/her) is a nationally recognized strategist, fundraiser, storyteller and non-profit leader with over 20 years of experience advancing political, philanthropic, and grassroots initiatives.

Ruby is also the founder of The Black Woman Institute and the Executive Director of Elect Black Women PAC, where she helped elect more than 100 Black women to office with a focus on down-ballot leadership. 

A former candidate for public office and a proud Southern Black woman from rural Louisiana, Ruby has been recognized by the Memphis Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” and continues to serve in leadership roles across civic and political organizations. She lives in Memphis with her husband and two children, and currently serves as Vice President of Membership for the Tennessee Women’s Political Caucus.

Ruby is a graduate of The University of Florida, where she studied advertising, political science, and secondary education. Ruby is also an alumna of Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of Memphis, where she received her master of arts in organizational communication and master's in business administration.

Danielle Mowery

Brooklyn, NY Local Leader

Danielle Mowery is an communicator, educator, and advocate with a depth of experience in media, development, public policy, strategy, and nonprofit leadership. As the Local Leader for Take Office - Brooklyn, she plans to motivate, train and support fellow women in Kings County and beyond to run for elected office, lead civic initiatives, and advance gender equity in public policy. Danielle also consults with a range of nonprofits in housing, media, youth, historic preservation and more. She has partnered with the NYC Civic Engagement Commission (NYC CEC) since the 2022 launch of The People's Money, a citywide participatory budget initiative which was voted into existence through a ballot proposal. Through this, she educates New Yorkers on the city budget and engages them in both the idea generation and the voting process. Her passion is to innovate, communicate and connect - and by doing so, initiate change and encourage diverse voices and ideas to be heard.
